When a team has the greatest player in the NHL on its team and an offense that is the league's best, one might think average goaltending is acceptable. Not in the NHL. Jose Thedore and Seymon Varlamov have combined to give up 11 goals in three games. Yes, Washington is 2-0-1 but with that overtime lose to Philadelphia it should be a wake up sign that to make a deep playoff run this year the goaltending will need to improve. Jose Thedore so far this season is playing better. He has a .917 save percentage on 36 shots. Thedore beat the Boston Bruins 4-1 on opening day. Seymon Varlamov has a .857 save percentage on 56 shots. Varlamov got the win vs the Maple Leafs in game two 6-4. For the Capitals to have any shot at the Finals goaltending needs to a big priority for them. Washington ranks No ...
