The Philadelphia Flyers have signed unrestricted free agent center Blair Betts to a professional tryout agreement effective effective on Sep. 13, when the Flyers open up training camp. Betts, 29, appeared in all but one game last season for the New York Rangers, potting six goals and four assists for 10 points.  His forte isn't scoring points, or setting up plays at all; instead, he excels on the defensive side of the puck. The Edmonton native is a top-notch defensive forward, and penalty killer.  New York was the league's top penalty kill unit last season—killing off 87.8-percent of their infractions—and it was largely because of Betts.
