Mikko Koivu, along with four other Minnesota players, is trying to bring home some impressive hardware at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, British Columbia. Koivu, along with Antti Miettinnen and Niklas Backstrom, is representing Finland and the team made their mark early, defeating Belarus earlier today by a score of 5-1. Mikko Koivu had three assists in the game and his older brother Sakku (who plays with the Anaheim Ducks) notched one assist on the game's first goal by Ollie Jokinen. Mikka Kiprusoff started in net today, but it would not be surprising to see Backstrom in at least one game during the preliminary round.
