The Statue of Liberty stands in New York to symbolize many things. Within those meanings are messages, some of which are written on the statue itself.  One of the messages is a poem written by Emma Lazarus over 120 years ago, reading: "Give me your tired, your poor Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, The wretched refuse of your teeming shore, Send these, the homeless, tempest-toast to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"
