One of the few still-unheralded NFL trade deadline deals saw the Eagles acquire LB Will Witherspoon from the St. Louis Rams for WR Brandon Gibson and a 2010 fifth-round draft pick. In a league where guys like Randy Moss only fetch fourth-rounders, this might be one of the biggest steals in recent history. Andy Reid admitted that the move was made necessary when Omar Gaither sprained his foot during last SundayÆs loss to the Raiders. But it goes beyond that, as it nicely shores up a problem area now and makes the linebacker postition a strength for the Eagles heading into next year. Much like Gaither, Witherspoon has started both in the middle and on the weak side in his previous stops in St. Louis and Carolina.
