When Atlanta Braves' rookie sensation Jason Heyward strode to the plate in his Major League Baseball debut, it sounded like the crowd knew what was coming. The excitement that started with the automobile bombardment in March reached a fever pitch as he dug into the batter's box for the first time. Turner Field was electric and the near-hysteria infected everyone with the good fortune to be present, in some capacity, for the moment. Everyone, that is, except Heyward. After taking two balls from Chicago Cub ace Carlos Zambrano, the 20-year-old man-child turned on an "oh darn" fastball and launched a screamer into the right field depths. Conservative estimates put the big fly's distance-traveled at 476 feet. Squawks out of Hotlanta's broadcast booth put it somewhere closer to 5280. ...
