Heading into the 2010 draft, the 49ers have several decisions to make regarding the running back position. Frank Gore's status as the starter undeniable, but after that the picture gets a little cloudy. Let's start by taking a quick look at the backs currently on the roster, and evaluate their perceived value to the team. (Note: Fullback is a separate issue, and as such we will be focusing on the ...

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports: "San Francisco's director of player personnel Trent Baalke will lead the 49ers into a critical draft in which the team is scheduled to have the 13th and 17th overall picks, according to a league source."   As Niners fans digest the recent and unexpected departure of Scot McCloughan, it appears that the organization will be placing it's trust in a man that is virtually unknown among the fan ...

"Leave" Unlikely for McCloughan ESPN's Adam Schefter reported yesterday that McCloughan was, in fact, taking a brief leave of absence from his Niners GM gig to attend to personal matters. In actuality, everything seems to point to the fact that McCloughan is not "on leave" and will not be returning to the 49ers in any capacity. The most telling detail comes from McCloughan's own words—referring to his tenure in the past tense. In a ...

Just five weeks before the NFL draft, the San Francisco 49ers might be without their general manager Scot McCloughan. As reported earlier by the Santa Rosa Press Democrat , McCloughan met with 49ers upper management behind closed doors Wednesday, and has since relocated files from his office. With two picks in the first round this year, the move couldn't come at a worse time for the team. McCloughan has made questionable moves in the past, ...

Paymah has played five seasons in the league, most recently with the Minnesota Vikings. He's not expected to compete for a starting role, but might have been signed to fill one of the spots left vacant by unsigned UFA's Dre Bly and Walt Harris. Paymah's best season came in ...

C.J. Spiller.  Unless you've been on another planet for the past three months, you know that he's the guy that Niners fans have been pining for in the upcoming 2010 NFL Draft.  The love for Spiller ranges from the cautious (we could take him), to the convinced (we should take him), to the fanatical (we have to get this guy!).   The argument for Spiller that is most commonly given: he addresses an immediate need for a ...
It's been said by many that Niners GM Scot McCloughan prefers drafting players based on size—the bigger the better. I've always assumed, though, that he'd be willing to make exceptions under the right circumstances, in order to avoid missing out on a player with exceptional speed and skills that might be just a hair shorter than the competition. Well, apparently, I've assumed wrong. Here it is in black and white from a ...

Michael Crabtree Signing a Waste for San Francisco 49ers

Go ahead, tell me to get over it.á Tell me that now that he's in red and gold we should embrace him. Tell me that it's not his fault. Tell me that he was surrounded by bad influences. Tell me that he received bad advice. Tell me that he's misunderstood, not a diva at all. Tell me that he still might make an impact on this year's team. And I'll tell you that you're wrong on ...
