NFL Stat Analysis: Opposition Adjusted Quarterback Rating

Opponent Adjusted Quarterback Rating: Week Two
I recently put together a regression model to determine the factors that most drive the number of points a football team scores in any given game.á It's a work in progress, but the factors I looked at were:
Yards per attempt (Y/A)
Interception Percentage
Yards/Rush
Average Y/A yielded by opponent
Average points yielded by opponent
Of the variables above, Y/A was, by the far, the strongestùfollowed by interception ...
After the third game of the season, you should be pretty aware of your fantasy situation.á If your team isn't in great condition and you need to make some moves to bolster one area of your roster, here are some players whose perceived value might be a little different than their actual value.

NFL Stat Analysis: Yards Per Attempt: More Important Than You Think
Posted: 25th September 2009 by Luis Alberto in NFL
My goal is to get into more robust analysis than what you're about to read. But, just to get myself started, I started looking at some data to see if there is any way to predict a team's offensive output (in terms of points). Before I get to that, I want to give a little background. I'm of the ever shrinking school of thought that a quarterback ...
Collision Course: 46 D Alums Ryan and Fisher To Face Off Sunday
Posted: 25th September 2009 by Michael Cohen in NFL
There are many story lines out there to follow for this Sunday's clash between the New York Jets and Tennessee Titans to feast off of, the obvious being New York coming off the ecstasy of walloping the New England Patriots 16-9 last weekend to improve the Badfellas (Jets) to 2-0 on the year.
Meanwhile, the Titans were just two or three plays away from being 2-0 and not ...
Say It Ain’t So: Theo Fleury Released by the Calgary Flames
Posted: 25th September 2009 by Brandon Hillis in NHL
In the end, it just wasnÆt enough for Theo Fleury to make the team.á
The months dedicated to getting back into shape, the fire and determination in his eyes, and the passion that he exhibited in four exhibition games just were not enough to make the team for which he once starred.á
In handing down FleuryÆs sentence, Flames General Manager Daryl Sutter played the unenviable role of the Grim Reaper, bringing to ...
If You Could Turn Back Time: 30 Players the Leafs Could Have Drafted, But DidnÆt…Since 1979- Part II.

With the embarrassment of the 80Æs behind them, the Leafs set their sights on the 90Æs. Perennial bottom feeders, there was no way to go but up for the Leafs, would they finally figure this draft thing out? or, would they revert to their old ways, leaving tremendous talent on the table while selecting underachievers?

I've been watching Lions games for about 19 years now, and I have witnessed many painful sights. From Barry Sanders breaking defenders' ankles to Paul Edinger kicking the game-winning field goal that destroyed any hopes of a playoff berth in 1999 and made me cry like a baby.

Over the years, you eventually develop a system to deal with the worst franchise in sportsùor at least, I have.

Come To Think Of It: A Win-Win In The Bronx Seems Strange For Sox-Yanks
Posted: 25th September 2009 by Bob Warja in MLB
This just ain't right.
Normally, whenever the Yankees and Red Sox get together you can expect a hard fought, emotionally charged series fraught with intensity and perhaps even some bloodshed.
Accordingly, there will be a winner and there will be a loser.
But this weekend in New York may be different in that the two 90-win teams are merely gearing up for the playoffs. The Yankees have already clinched a playoff spot, while ...
Packers-Rams: Q+A With Rams Examiner Tim Klutsarits
Posted: 25th September 2009 by Mark Strotman in NFL
This week, I tried a new theme out by agreeing to do a Q+A with Rams Examiner Tim Klutsarits.á We both asked each other questions about the opposing teams to get a grasp on the matchup that will take place on Sunday in St. Louis.á Up first are TimÆs questions on the Packers followed by my questions on the Rams.
Tim Klutsarits: I think there are a lot of Rams fans ...
Nine-Year-Old Yankees Fan Forced to Wear T-shirt Inside Out at School
Posted: 25th September 2009 by Amanda Bruno in MLB
Now this is just plain wrong, Red Sox fan or not.
On Syracuse.com, the Post-Standard's official web site, its featured story is about 9-year-old student Nathan Johns who was forced to turn his CC Sabathia Yankees T-shirt inside out by his fourth grade teacher Peter Addabbo, who is a diehard Red Sox fan.
Johns thought he was kidding, but that wasn't the case at all.áHe was instructed to wear the shirt like ...
