It has been reported by TSN's Bob McKenzie that the Carolina Hurricanes have placed veteran defenseman Aaron Ward on waivers. McKenzie also notes that it is unlikely that Ward will be picked up on waivers, considering he does have a cap hit of $2.5 million, and stands a better chance of getting picked up on re-entry waivers at half the cost. One team who could have interest in the veteran defenseman is the Chicago Blackhawks. The Blackhawks already have a fairly solid defense that includes Duncan Keith, Brent Seabrook, Brian Campbell, Niklas Hjalmarrson, Brent Sopel and Cam Barker.
