In the 1998 offseason, the Sacramento Kings added four players to their roster who would go on to help transform the franchise from laughingstock to NBA title contender. The team acquired Chris Webber from the Washington Wizards in exchange for Mitch Richmond and Otis Thorpe, used the seventh overall pick of the draft on point guard Jason Williams, and signed both Vlade Divac and Peja Stojakovic.á Head coach Rick Adelman, who had guided the Portland Trail Blazers to two NBA Finals appearances, made his debut with the team as well.
