Over five decades ago, American sociologist C. Wright Mills famously wrote The Power Elite, which asserted that a minute sliver of the population—the elite—held a tremendously disproportionate influence over the decision-making in the military, corporate, and political realms.
Now, you may or may not entirely agree with the validity of Mills’ thesis. But if we apply Mills’ notion to the world of sports, the type of person he had in mind ...
Carlos Boozer is an upcoming free agent.
It sounds a lot like he is going to leave Utah and head elsewhere. Where does that leave the Jazz?
I think it leaves them in a good position, actually. They have Paul Millsap, who can immediately step in for Boozer and be a force in the paint.
On the team's website for season tickets they have Paul Millsap and Deron Williams. That gives you another ...
The Boston Celtics are going to lose a great defensive coach, Tom Thibodeau. He was the one coach that made the 2008 Celtics defense great during their title run.
Thibodeau deserves to coach an NBA team. He fits in perfect with the Chicago Bulls as a defensive head coach.
Does that lure LeBron James even more to Chicago during free agency? I think so, because LeBron doesn't want to play for a ...
The Cleveland Cavaliers fired Danny Ferry and Mike Brown, who led them to the best record in the NBA. Now, there are trade rumors about Mo Williams and Delonte West.
Does that mean Cleveland is going into rebuilding mode?
I think so—LeBron won't come back to Cleveland in my opinion. Since LeBron will leave what else can they do?
The reason for all of the trade rumors now is that they are trying to ...
The NBA is all about reputation.
For example, despite the fact that LeBron’s teammates are so bad that not one of them would crack the Lakers, Magics or Celtics’ starting fives (unless Mo Williams played with enough confidence to replace Fisher), the storyline becomes how LeBron "couldn’t get it done" because he's not as great as we thought.
Or imagine if instead of Pau Gasol chucking Kendrick Perkins ...
There are three things I can name right off the top of my head that I could say are useless in New York: a car, good manners, and other New Yorkers trying to persuade LeBron James to sign with the Knicks.
With roughly three weeks left until NBA free agency opens, ESPNNewYork.com's Andrew Marchand wrote an article stating that Knicks president Donnie Walsh wants as many New Yorkers as possible ...
Cleveland Cavaliers’ Best Chance To Keep LeBron James? Name Him Coach and GM
Posted: 7th June 2010 by Hadarii Jones in NBA
Reports surfaced earlier today which said the Cleveland Cavaliers' head coaching job had been offered to Michigan State coach Tom Izzo, and if this is true yet another chapter has been added to the LeBron James saga.
Izzo seems much better suited to prowl the college sidelines than the NBA's, and besides, the solutions to all of the Cavaliers' problems could be right in front of owner Dan Gilbert's eyes.
The offseason ...
2010 NBA Finals: Los Angeles Lakers Can Steal Finals On Boston Celtics’ Court

Paul Pierce screamed, “We ain’t coming back to L.A.”
Rajon Rondo danced his way to a triple-double.
Ray Allen set an NBA Finals record from distance.
Heading back to Boston in a scenario that most Los Angeles faithful dread, the Lakers went from being a favorite to secure a 16th NBA title to being in dire need of a road win. The C’s decisive 103-94 victory at Staples Center Sunday pushed the Lakers ...
2010 NBA Finals: Celtics Rajon Rondo Schools the Lakers To Take Game Two
Posted: 6th June 2010 by Paul Peszko in NBA
After Game 1 with all the media hypsters saying that the Lakers had out-toughed the Celtics, Phil Jackson expected the Celtics to pound the Lakers inside.
Jackson had D.J. Mbenga and Josh Powell rough up Pau Gasol in practice on Saturday to ready him for a tough physical game inside.
But Doc Rivers had a different idea.
Instead, the Celtics went outside with their guards doing most of the damage to build a ...
What Does Danny Ferry’s Resignation Say About Cavaliers Stability?
Posted: 4th June 2010 by Eric Felkey in NBA
Cavaliers general manager Danny Ferry will not be reprising his role within the team next year, when his contract expires in June, the Cleveland Plain-Dealer reported this afternoon.
The decision to let Ferry go came late Wednesday night, according to sources within the team. Soon-to-be free agent LeBron James had no direct influence on the outcome, said beat writer Brian Windhorst.
According to various outlets, it ...
