Pittsburgh Pirates: “Calling Jeff Karstens”

Posted: 21st April 2010 by Tom Au in MLB
That's what the Pirates might be doing. But they aren't. Only a few pieces ago, I opined that Dan McCutchen, the Pirates' latest fifth starter, could enjoy accelerated promotion because of injury, failure or trade, of higher ranking pitchers. He in fact, did, as a result of Ross Ohlendorf's injury. Having been moved into Ohlendorf's spot, he is now effectively "second" starter, even though he isn't yet of that quality. But he is ...

Numbers Don’t Lie: Tribe Hitters Shockingly Bad

Posted: 21st April 2010 by Jon Sladek in MLB
We realize the season is just two weeks old, but one can't help but imagine what kind of start the Indians would be off to if they had managed any hitting at all to this point. The casual observer may realize the Tribe offense has been poor, but just how poor is pretty unbelievable. As a team, the Indians are dead last in baseball, hitting a pathetic, embarrassing .214 on the ...

Posted: 21st April 2010 by Jay Brennan in MLB
It’s the end of the second week of the 2010 Major League Baseball season. Production this week was near empty for these sluggers. Each of them is desperately trying to find a repairman for his mechanics.   1) OF Colby Rasmus, STL The Cardinal outfielder has been suffering. Hitless in his last 15 plate appearances, Rasmus could only provide a single walk to help his team this week. Rasmus had a .000 AVG this ...

MLB Fantasy Power Rankings: Week Two

Posted: 21st April 2010 by Zac Fluewelling in MLB
1.(↔) Minnesota Twins (9-4): The Twins continue to look impressive holding the top spot for the first two weeks of the season. If this were the MLB power rankings I would have them right behind the Yanks and Phils. These gentleman can do it all posting 123 and 125 points offensively and pitching wise respectively. 2.(↑5) New York Yankees (9-3): The pinstripes don’t lead the league in any ...

Five Things Cleveland Indians Fans Should Stop Complaining About

Posted: 21st April 2010 by Lewie Pollis in MLB
It shouldn't surprise anyone that Clevelanders love to complain. We certainly have just cause: with rampant unemployment and poverty, miserable weather, and heartbreaking sports teams, Forbes recently named us the most miserable city in America. But as I listened to the increasingly drunk fans sitting behind me at Progressive Field the other night (they were pretty loud, it was kind of hard not to), I realized that some of their beefs really ...

Boston Red Sox News And Notes: David Ortiz Showing His Age

Posted: 21st April 2010 by Adam Bernacchio in MLB
Many of you have been asking me how come I have not written about the Boston Red Sox slow start to 2010. The reason I have not written about the team yet is because I wanted to gather all my thoughts and really think about what has happened so far. If I wrote about how I really felt at times, then something like “I would love to punch J.D. Drew in ...
In typical New York Mets fashion, the opposite of what was expected is now becoming a reality. If someone were to tell you last February that Jason Bay and David Wright would be the problem during the early days of the 2010 season and not the pitching staff, you would have probably looked at them as if they had spent the last 12 months on the moon. But as we should have ...

Edinson Volquez of Cincinnati Reds Suspended for 50 Games

Posted: 21st April 2010 by Adam Bernacchio in MLB
Another year, another former All-Star suspended 50 games by Major League Baseball for testing positive for performance-enhancing drugs. Last year it was Los Angeles Dodgers slugger Manny Ramirez who was suspended for 50 games, and yesterday it was Cincinnati Reds pitcher Edinson Volquez who was suspended.   Obviously Volquez’s suspension isn’t as big of news as Manny being suspended, but it’s still pretty significant nonetheless. Here is the statement that was released by Volquez’s ...

The move to second didn’t affect his hitting. His average is .362. Dave Bush, Milwaukee Brewers Bush went 7 scoreless innings allowing just 3 hits to improve to 1-0 with a 2.41 ERA.
