Posted: 26th June 2010 by Zeke Fuhrman in MLB
Last night, former Blue Jay Roy Halladay, now with the Philadelphia Phillies, threw seven shut out innings in a 9-0 win in his first game against his former team. Johan Santana hoped to have similar success against his former Minnesota Twins teammates as he faced them for the first time since being traded in 2007. After Orlando Hudson, Jason Kubel and Delmon Young all had doubles in the first inning, Santana found ...

Creator Of the Minnesota Twins Logo Dies at Age 80

Posted: 21st April 2010 by Zeke Fuhrman in MLB
The artist who created the iconic characters of "Minnie" and "Paul" has passed away at the age of 80 after battling cancer. Ray Barton was paid $15 in 1961 to create two baseball players shaking hands over a river as part of the Twins logo. He was under the impression that the logo would simply be used on Dixie cups in Metropolitan Stadium, but it now majestically hovers over Target Field in ...
This kind of scenario happens all the time. Go back to 1997 for a minute. The Minnesota Twins dealt All-Star second baseman Chuck Knoblauch to the New York Yankees for Christian Guzman, Eric Milton, Danny Mota, and Brian Buchanan. Eric Milton, who was an All-Star and pitched a no-hitter for the Twins, was traded to Philadelphia for Carlos Gomez and Nick Punto. Brian Buchanan was traded to the San Diego Padres for Jason ...

Baseball: Blitzball Making Impact on Students of the Game

Nathan Beard has always had the dream of being a knuckleball pitcher.   As a youth growing up in Staples, MN, Beard began working on his knuckleball at a young age.   By the time he reached the high school varsity in the spring of 2004, Beard was looking for a place in the starting rotation.   But two things stood in his way of achieving his dream.   In 2004, Staples hired Pat Held, who had many ...

Jim Thome Ties Groundbreaking Twin On Home Run List

Posted: 9th April 2010 by Zeke Fuhrman in MLB
After taking Brian Stokes deep on Thursday, Jim Thome hit his 565th career home run, and is now only two shy of tying Rafeal Palmeiro for 11th on the all-time list. But on another list, Jim Thome tied one of the hardest working Twins in recent memory. Jason Tyner played eight major league seasons, and spent three with the Twins, but his most memorable moment came in a July 28th game in 2007. In ...

Minnesota Twins Power Their Way to Series Win in Anaheim

Posted: 9th April 2010 by Zeke Fuhrman in MLB
The last time the Minnesota Twins won a series in Anaheim, Rick Reed and Eric Milton were the winning pitchers. The last time the Minnesota Twins hit nine home runs in their first four games was...never. After dropping the season opener to the Los Angeles Angels 6-3 last Monday night, the Twins won the last three games of the series, outscoring the Angels 19-6. The Twins have jumped out of the gate with ...
Perhaps Vikings head coach Brad Childress knows something we don't know. With Childress' protege Donovan McNabb on the trade block in Philadelphia, the Vikings seemed to be front runners in the McNabb sweepstakes. Childress was McNabb's QB coach from 1999-2002 and his offensive coordinator from 2003-2005. Childress personally lobbied the Eagles to select McNabb with the second pick of the 1999 NFL Draft ahead of other top-rated quarterbacks like Akili Smith, Daunte Culpepper, ...

New Orleans Saints Super Bowl Win Still Refreshing

Posted: 7th April 2010 by Zeke Fuhrman in NFL
As a Minnesota Vikings fan, I never thought I'd see the day I'd be writing an article like this. After the ESPN classic-bound 2009 NFC Championship game between my Minnesota Vikings and the New Orleans Saints, pure resentment towards the Saints franchise filled my body. After they beat the Indianapolis Colts in Super Bowl XLIV, "RB" Reggie Bush made the comment, "I always knew I'd get a Super Bowl ring. But I ...
