Former Washington Redskin DT Perry Brooks Sr. Passes Away

Posted: 16th March 2010 by Josh McCain in NFL
I regret to report that former Washington Redskins defensive tackle Perry Brooks Sr. passed away on March 1, at Potomac Hospital in Woodbridge, Virginia.  Brooks was 55 years old. Brooks was drafted from Southern University in 1976 by the New England Patriots in the seventh round. He was traded to the Redskins in 1977 where he would spend the remainder of his career.  He retired after the 1984 season at the age of ...

The Redskins’ Real Reason for Keeping Quiet in Free Agency

Posted: 11th March 2010 by Josh McCain in NFL
I have learned this morning of the possible reason the Washington Redskins, and more importantly their owner, Dan Snyder have been unusually quiet this off-season. WTOP Radio in Washington D.C. reported this morning that a number of Jet Airplanes at Dulles International Airport have been inaccessible because of a collapsed roof of their Jet Center due to the amount of snow the D.C. area received in February. One of those Jets, ...

Frank Herzog, Longtime Voice of the Washington Redskins, Retires

Posted: 10th March 2010 by Josh McCain in NFL
Frank Herzog will probably best be remembered as the voice of the Washington Redskins, in fact for those of us who grew up during the 80s and 90s he will always be the voice of the Redskins, even though he hasn't called a game since the 2004 season. This month though Frank, 65, plans on retiring from broadcasting.  He was reported as saying that he has two grandchildren to spoil. Besides being ...
With their historic win streak ended at 14, three shy of the NHL record, and the Olympics well under way, the Capitals have decided now would be a good time to raise ticket prices for their season ticket holders. It would appear that owner Ted Leonsis has been talking with Washington Redskins owner Dan Snyder. Snyder must have told him "Look for any excuse to raise prices." Now I know hockey is ...
On Monday, Darrell Green celebrated his 50th birthday (a belated happy birthday to you sir from all of us at Bleacher Report), and to mark the occasion he decided to run a forty-yard dash. His time?á A remarkable 4.43 seconds.á That's amazing! I know twenty-somethings who aren't that fast. The former 1983 first-round draft pick has had many career highlights.á He's a seven-time Pro-Bowler and first ballot Hall of Famer, but Green just may ...

MLB Hall of Fame: The First Ballot Sacred Cow

Posted: 7th January 2010 by Josh McCain in MLB
Excuse me, loyal reader, as I go on a bit of a rant this morning. On Tuesday's addition of Around the Horn on ESPN, writer Jay Mariotti won the day's pseudo competition and was awarded his 30 seconds of face time. He chose to use this time to exclaim how he didn't vote this year for Major League Baseball's Hall of Fame. He said that none of the players up for the first ...

The Role Model in Professional Sports

Posted: 7th January 2010 by Josh McCain in NBA
Here in the Nation's Capitol, the second most talked about sports story is that Gilbert Arenas felt one of the best places to store his fire arms was his NBA locker at the Verizon Center in downtown Washington, D.C. This has sparked a slew of conversation both locally and nationally. I have given little concern towards it because there are so few facts and most of what has been reported so far ...

Hey NFL, If It Ain’t Broken, Don’t Fix It.

Posted: 4th January 2010 by Josh McCain in NFL
For those of you lucky enough to have watched the the Pittsburgh Steelers at the Miami Dolphins, which was a fantastic game, you were also given a treat at the start of the second half. The National Football League's Commissioner Rodger Goodell joined Greg Gumbel and Dan Dierdorf in the CBS booth for a little chat. They talked about the new scheduling for the Pro-Bowl, which I'm split on because ...

Enough from the Talking Heads About the Colts Resting Their Starters

Posted: 29th December 2009 by Josh McCain in NFL
As you all know already, the New York Jets beat the Indianapolis Colts this past Sunday after Colts head coach Jim Caldwell pulled his starters with only a slim lead. Now it seems that everyone with a television camera or a column or blog is talking about how the Colts shouldn't have done that.á You hear things like they they should have gone for 16-0 or they've changed the ...

Mike Holmgren Agrees to Become Cleveland Browns President

Posted: 21st December 2009 by Josh McCain in NFL
The 6 PM SportsCenter on ESPN is reporting that Mike Holmgren has agreed to terms with the Cleveland Browns to become the team's new President. This news, of course, puts into question the future of Brown's coach Eric Mangini. Even with Brown's legend Jim Brown backing Mangini and saying he deserves one more year, one has to wonder if there will be someone new roaming the sidelines in Cleveland next season.Read ...
