Top 10 Trades Over The Last 10 Years Where Both Teams Lost

Posted: 10th May 2010 by Joseph DelGrippo in MLB
Trades are always seen as which teams "won" and which team "lost." Some times, both teams win. With the terrible starts to both Javier Vazquez of the New York Yankees and Melky Cabrera of the Atlanta Braves, thus far it appears both teams have "lost" in that trade. We thought it would interesting to go back 10 seasons and see what other trades did not work out for either team. ...
During Friday night's New York Yankees-Boston Red Sox game, starting pitcher Josh Beckett hit Robinson Cano and Derek Jeter in the big eight run Yankee fifth inning. He also came close to Mark Teixeira and Francisco Cervelli in that same inning. After Jeter's plunking, I texted the guys from the Shore Sports Report , where I do a baseball analyst radio spot every Friday, saying that "Pedroia needs to get ...

Are the New York Mets Prepping Hisanori Takahashi for a Starters Role?

Posted: 28th April 2010 by Joseph DelGrippo in MLB
In Tuesday night's New York Mets game against the reeling Los Angeles Dodgers, Hisanori Takahashi came in relief of Oliver Perez, tossing 3.1 innings of two-hit, one-run baseball, while striking out five Dodgers. Takahashi has the looks of a strike-out machine, fanning 21 hitters in 14.1 innings. While allowing only 11 hits, he has also issued 10 free passes, all good for an ERA of 3.77. Those 14.1 innings have accumulated during ...

The Ten Worst Baseball Teams of All Time

Posted: 27th April 2010 by Joseph DelGrippo in MLB
With a 7-6 win this past Sunday over the Boston Red Sox, the 2010 Baltimore Orioles vaulted their record to 3-16, for a sizzling .158 winning percentage. If the current Orioles kept up this record pace, this losing percentage would be the second worst of all time. Howver, there is no way they continue this pace, not with good, young hitters Matt Wieters, Adam Jones, Nolan Reimold and Nick Markakis ...

New York Yankees: The Good, the Bad and the Ugly

One of the best Clint Eastwood movies from his Western days was "The Good, The Bad and The Ugly." Fantastic. Rent it if you have not seen it. In fact, get a bunch of Clint movies one rainy day and park yourself on the couch. This movie title is going to be the same as this Yankee theme. It will be a bi-weekly segment on the most recent Yankee two week ...

Top 25 World Series Winners over the Past 26 Seasons

It is the reason why they play the game, with the ultimate goal to win the World Series, get the ring and hold the trophy. There have been 105 teams which declared themselves champions, not by a poll of writers voting them champions, but by beating every challenger on the diamond. Many times teams theans were invincible, like the 1927 Yankees, who dominated the American League season, winning the ...

David Wright’s Career Is Over Unless He Becomes Fearless at the Plate

The event occurred after my college career was over and I was several seasons into one of the various semi-pro leagues I played in during the summer. Make no mistake about the quality of "summer ball," as these were some of the most competitive seasons we ever played. A regular season was usually a 40-game schedule played over 60 days, then playoffs. We were taking infield practice during a team workout and while playing ...

Why Joe Girardi Was Completely Wrong about Wanting to Pull CC Sabathia

Posted: 16th April 2010 by Joseph DelGrippo in MLB
I wanted to give my opinion on Joe Girardi wanting to pull CC Sabathia before the ninth inning of last Saturday's game at Tampa Bay. Sabathia was cruising along with a no-hitter into the 8th inning, when with two outs Kelly Shoppach, a former teammate of CC's at Cleveland, singled to left. Even before the ball landed, Girardi was out of the dugout to remove Sabathia. No big deal with the Yankees were ...

A New Big Money Pitcher Has Early Struggles for the New York Yankees

Posted: 16th April 2010 by Joseph DelGrippo in MLB
Due to financial reasons, a highly-paid pitcher moves from a solid team and comes to the Bronx with high expectations. People spoke on how he comes from a weaker division, and wonder how this right hander, who is a control specialist but strikes out his share of batters, will fare in the mighty American League East, a division which had four of the top five hitting teams in the AL. This starter ...

Top 20 MLB Rookie of the Year Seasons Over the Last 35 Years

Atlanta Braves 20-year-old outfielder Jason Heyward made the opening day lineup and has begun to produce immediate results, with three home runs and 10 RBI. Other recently drafted, under-25 players such as Brian Matusz of the Baltimore Orioles, Wade Davis of the Tampa Bay Rays, and Alcides Escobar of the Milwaukee Brewers began the 2010 season in the majors. But other young players such as Washington Nationals RHPs Stephen Strasburg and ...
