Blue Jackets-Panthers: Game Recap

Posted: 9th December 2009 by Ed Cmar in NHL
Well, the CBJ finally, for one night, anyway, got back in the win column.á Granted, this game was a cure for insomnia, but, as they say, a win is a win, and this fragile team sorely needed one.á á Onto the postgame analysis (what went well, what went OK, and what was forgettable): á The Good á * Steve Mason - Boy, is this great to say, again.á Granted, the Panthers won't be confused with the Capitals, ...

NHL Power Rankings: Week Ending Dec. 5, 2009

Posted: 4th December 2009 by Ed Cmar in NHL
This is my maiden voyage into doing power rankingsùso be gentle, please. I thought, seeing as IÆm woefully at the Mendoza line (.200, 1-for-5), as it relates to pre-game prognostications, IÆd see if my luck would change in being able to assess which teams are the strongest, weakest, or somewhere in between. That being said, here are my power rankings for Dec. 4. á 1. San Jose Wow! Where do I begin? Not ...
á Well, darn it if I didn't almost nail it the other night. I just had the order wrong in the prediction. I predicted the Columbus Blue Jackets (CBJ) would win, 4-3, in the shootout. I'm getting closer, much like the CBJ, but I'd really like to get those two proverbial points, rather than settling for one in overtime or a shootout. That being said, here's another shameless stab at pregame prognostications...for ...

Post-Game Analysis: Blue Jackets Vs. Blackhawks

Posted: 2nd December 2009 by Ed Cmar in NHL
Well, I almost nailed the pre-game prediction. Yes, I had the order of teams mixed up, but it certainly was a lot closer than my first ever pre-game guess. Props to me for guessing the final score, anyway. In any event, what an exhilarating game last night. An 11-round shootout, the longest in the history of the Columbus Blue Jackets (CBJ). It really had the feel of a playoff elimination game, or ...
Well, once again, I blew it, with my prediction, last night.  Trust me, no one's happier than I that I blew it than the Columbus Blue Jackets (CBJ), as they defeated St. Louis, 5-2, last night. Being one for three is only good if you're playing baseball.  As I've mentioned, being this inept demonstrates basically everything I know about hockey, which isn't much.  Then again, some other pundits are far more clueless, but, good luck ...

Pre-Game Analysis: Blue Jackets vs. Blues

Posted: 29th November 2009 by Ed Cmar in NHL
Well, I'm back with another fearless prediction—this time, I've got a lot of swagger, after almost nailing the final score and outcome in the CBJ's game against the Preds, on the 21st.  A wise person would quit while they're behind—well, I'm not that wise person.  Lest we forget, I also had possibly the worst prediction, ever, against the Red Wings, a week or so earlier.  Then again, no one saw that ...

Blue Jackets-Flames: Post-Game Analysis

Posted: 29th November 2009 by Ed Cmar in NHL
Rather than do the usual drone of a narrative game recap (I'm not that clever, and really, I'm not that lyrical), I'd like to do a quick n' dirty analysis of last night's game, between the Blue Jackets and the Calgary Flames. So, here's what went well, what went OK, and what was abysmal:   The Good: * The CBJ playing solid, Hitch-like hockey for 54 minutes.  Lots of energy, tight checking and solid ...

As mentioned, I’d like to offer my analysis of the performances of the Blue Jacket players, for the first quarter of the season.  While not scientific, it’s a pretty fair approximation on how their players have performed thus far. Combining their best ever start to a season with their recent 0-3-1 road slump allows for quite a distribution of analysis, pro and con. So, here’s how ...

Columbus Blue Jackets: The Quarterly Review

Posted: 25th November 2009 by Ed Cmar in NHL
It's too funny how timing works. I was crafting an article on the quarterly status report on the Columbus Blue Jackets and my esteemed cohort, Aaron Tom, beat me to the punchùprops to you, my friend, great stuff! á I would like, however, to offer my view of how things have gone, or not gone, so far. á The record:á 12-8-3.á When you look at it, on the surface, all seems well in the ...
