Sam Bradford Will Wear Jersey No. 8 for the St. Louis Rams

Posted: 24th April 2010 by David Leon in NFL
The Rams formally introduced Sam Bradford to the St. Louis media yesterday.  Bradford hoisted a freshly minted Rams jersey bearing his name and the No. 8...WTF? Eight? Eight? What happened to 14?  Well, Kennan Burton wears that number right now. So what?  Let's rip it off his back and put it on Bradford.  Burton might not even make the team this year.   This should not be the reason Bradford changes numbers. ...
Thus far, the Rams have done nothing to improve their sagging receiver corp in the 2010 draft.  This is a serious problem because Sam Bradford lacks quality targets to throw to. This can change quickly tomorrow.  Several outstanding receivers with high draft grades remain on the board.  Let's hope this situation does change for the better.   With that said we have the following (mostly) excellent prospects to chose from: Dezmond Briscoe , ...
So here we sit just about four-and-half days away from the draft.  Please, pardon me for this rant, my fellow Ram fans, but this is our last chance to stop the suicide express. They say one definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, expecting different results.  Ram HQ seems set to score positive on this diagnostic for insanity.  We will know on Thursday April 22, around ...

NFL: Ben-Gate and the St. Louis Rams

Posted: 15th April 2010 by David Leon in NFL
An ancient Chinese curse reads "May you live in interesting times."   In 30 years as a St. Louis Rams fan, I cannot remember a news cycle like this one. For the past several years, the Rams have been a low-profile team, clocking two wins per season, and drafting No. 2 overall. National interest in the team has been slim to none. Now, suddenly, there is more Rams news than you can keep ...

The St. Louis Rams Must Do the Deal for Albert Haynesworth

Posted: 15th April 2010 by David Leon in NFL
Tonight on NFL Total Access, Jason La Canfora reported that the Washington Redskins are more than certain that they want to part company with their $100m defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth.  They are going to a 3-4 front under former Ram DC Jim Haslett, and Haynesworth does not want to be the nose tackle.  Rather than deal with a disgruntled and expensive prima donna who didn't perform particularly well ...

Who Should The St. Louis Rams Draft With The No. 33 Pick?

Posted: 14th April 2010 by David Leon in NFL
Presuming that the Rams go ahead with their current plan to select Sam Bradford, it is logical to suppose that they will get him some help with the No. 33 pick.  This help could take two forms.  The Rams could select an offensive lineman to give Sam a bit better protection. The Rams might also select a wide receiver to give Sam somebody to throw too. As things look now, quite ...

Bill Walsh was criticized for selecting Joe Montana with 82nd pick in the 1979 draft. Montana was selected at the very bottom of the third round, but some thought he was taken far too soon. Worthy of a fifth-rounder, tops. Also, the 49ers had pretty bad quarterback problems that year. If the 49ers had not been so stupid as to trade their first round pick to Buffalo, they could have gotten a real quarterback, ...
There is a famous saying in the NFL, according to Tiny Tom Jackson, and it goes like this. One is a fluke. Two is a pattern. Three is a serious problem. This rule is applied to any series of disturbing or upsetting behavior regarding a player. The last time I heard Tom Jackson invoke this rule, he was talking about Jake Delhomme and 7+ turnover games. We all know how that story ...
