Boston Red Sox Experiencing Power Outage

Posted: 30th April 2010 by Sean Kennedy in MLB
Twenty-two games into this season, the Red Sox have finally drawn even at 11-11, putting them alone in third place. The Sox have won five of their last six games and seven out of nine. With the exception of Wednesday's 2-0 victory,  every one of them was won by one run. That hasn't happened since 1943. Over those eight games, the Sox have scored 47 runs and their opponents 45.  That's just squeaking by.  The ...
Doomed was too strong a word to use to describe the Montreal Canadien’s prospects in the first round against the President’s Trophy-winning Washington Capitals.   Les habitants staged an improbable comeback after falling behind three games to one. The last two games of the series were played almost exclusively in the Canadien’s end, yet luck, enough offense—especially on the power play—and some epic poem-generating goaltending from Jarolsav Halak allowed the Canadien’s to ...
The Second Round of the NHL Playoffs kicks off tonight with the Detroit Red Wings fresh off a Game Seven victory over the Phoenix Coyotes traveling to the Shark Tank to take on the San Jose Sharks. In the other three semifinals the Chicago Blackhawks will be taking on the Vancouver Canucks in a rematch of last year's semifinals which the Blackhawks won in six games. Meanwhile in the East ...

San Jose Sharks Will Advance To the Third Round

Posted: 30th April 2010 by Eric Warren in NHL
A bold statement to be sure, but a month ago I picked them to face the Pittsburgh Penguins in the Cup Final. San Jose is a team whose time has come, mostly because it has to. Several key members of the San Jose team will be entering free agency this offseason and are literally playing for their lives. Joe Pavelski, Patrick Marleau, Devin Setoguchi, Evgeni Nabokov, Rob Blake, Jed Ortmeyer, ...
The Buffalo Sabres have already begun to rebuild just three days after they were upset by the Boston Bruins in the first round of the 2010 NHL playoffs. The Sabres announced on Thursday that they would be picking up the one-year option to keep head coach Lindy Ruff in Buffalo for a 13th straight season. Ruff and general manager Darcy Regier were both called into question by many of the Buffalo faithful ...
After the closing seconds ticked off the Game Seven clock in the Montreal Canadiens' stunning first-round elimination of the Washington Capitals from the NHL postseason, attention quickly shifted to the second round. In it, the eight seed Les Habitants , and the No. 4 Pittsburgh Penguins will face-off in the playoffs for only the second time in the franchises storied histories. Perhaps the biggest storyline going into this series is ...

2010 Stanley Cup Playoffs: David vs. Goliath II

Posted: 30th April 2010 by Francois Gendron in NHL
The Montreal Canadiens and Jaroslav Halak had another fantastic game in store Wednesday as they defeated the Washington Capitals by the score of 2-1 to win this Eastern conference first round best of seven series by four games to three. Once again this year, Alexander Ovechkin, with all his ''hype'' and individual efforts, failed miserably during the playoffs. The Canadiens had very little time to celebrate. Tonight they open ...

Canada’s Golden Hockey Chain

Posted: 30th April 2010 by Steve Thompson in NHL
Now that the Stanley Cup playoffs are here, it is a good time to recall the greatest names from the past that are true sports legends. Canada has been blessed with having the greatest player of a generation almost consistently from the 1940s to the present day. Canada was also blessed with many great support players who aren't on this list, including Jean Beliveau, Doug Harvey, Phil Esposito, ...

Joe Pavelski: A Proven Winner at Every Level

Posted: 30th April 2010 by Tom Schreier in NHL
After helping the American Olympic hockey team win a silver medal earlier this year, Joe Pavelski is doing what he can to ensure that his local club will not be a playoff disappointment this year. After tallying two goals against the Detroit Red Wings in Game One, he has increased his playoff total to seven, putting him two goals ahead of Sidney Crosby, who has the most points in this year’s ...

What We Learned From The Dallas Mavericks’ Loss

Posted: 29th April 2010 by Anthony Higgins in NBA
After watching the Mavericks lose in the first round of the Western Conference playoffs against the San Antonio Spurs, I learned a lot of things about what is wrong with our team and what we need to do to get better.     Jason Kidd is not capable of guarding anyone.   Yes, he is our best option at point guard and is the most efficient at running our team, but if we can't stop ...
